Who am I?
I'm a native English linguist specialising in subtitles and voice-over.
As video content has become increasingly prominent online, so have subtitles. But not all subtitles out there are made to a professional quality.
It's my aim to improve the consistency and readability of audiovisual translations so that English speakers can enjoy foreign-language content just as much as the original audience.
Subtitle translators with really good timecoding skills are hard to come by.
Luckily, I have an MA in Audiovisual Translation from the University of Leeds, which equipped me with the technical skills to create accurate subtitles, including captions for Deaf and Hard-of-hearing viewers. And since 2021, I’ve been tutoring German to English subtitling on the same course!
I not only create well-presented subtitles that follow target-country standards, but I also understand how viewers process subtitled text, which is important when deciding which translation strategies to employ and when.

On the Bernina Express from Chur, Switzerland, to Tirano, Italy.
I also have a BA in French and German from University College London, during which time I lived in Berlin and Montpellier, studying at Humboldt University of Berlin and Paul Valéry University. I love exploring new countries, but I somehow end up back in the same cities, catching up with old friends and continuing to immerse myself in the source culture of the texts I'm translating.
Although I love life abroad, living in the UK helps me to ensure my translations are idiomatic and without source interference, as I can keep up to date with terminology, phrasing and style in my native language.

Before setting up my own company, I worked as an audiovisual project manager. I was responsible for handling subtitling, voice-over, typesetting and translation projects in all languages, from Latin American Spanish to Arabic, Gujarati and Bengali. I created subtitle templates, quality checked translations and resynchronised subtitles against target voice-over on a daily basis.

Part-time noise maker.
When I'm not at my desk, you'll find me drumming in a band called Katumba, which fuses carnival beats from Northeast Brazil and UK club music.
I've played in some incredible gigs, including Reminisce festival at the M&S Arena, the Eurovision Yellow and Blue Submarine Parade and various Halloween parades around Liverpool. I also lead Katumba drumming workshops for well-being and team-building.

In addition to drums, I play piano, having achieved ABRSM Grade 7. One day I will make it to Grade 8!
I basically love anything creative: making watercolour and gouache greeting cards, lino printing, sewing, embroidery, baking bread, cakes, trying out new vegan recipes, rollerskating, renovating my house and adding as much colour as possible. I have an inquisitive mind, and I never want to stop learning!
